So I just tried writing this blog and ended up deleting it by accident so here goes attempt numero dos... Hi it's Jamie here! You guys probably haven't heard from me like ever so go to our bio page and find the picture of me holding a baby pigs brain :). Every Monday I'm gonna give you an inside look on the life of an honors high school student's week. (Yay, another teen complaing about the stress that she has and how hard her life is!) So today was honestly the worst Monday that you could possibly imagine. Originally I slept early so that I could wake up early and study for the two TESTS (one in biotech and one in Spanish) I had today. And guess what? I OVERSLEPT!!! Like seriously of all days this was the day where my body was like, "You know what? You need some rest, here's some extra z's." Don't get me wrong I love sleep but if this were a test in math or APUSH.... boy oh boy oh boy, I'd be screwed. Thankfully they weren't that bad, but it gets worse ;). When I was on my way home from Aqua, I checked my text messages and learned that APUSH homework was due today. My stupid brain thought for some reason homework was due tomorrow, and now I have to do it all tonight. This was honestly the best way to start the week. Here's what's planned for the week and I honestly feel like dying (not for real though, figuratively). Tuesday: pre-calc quiz Wednesday: SATs! Yayyyy -_- Thursday: APUSH unit test and 20 word vocab quiz + finish a book that I absolutely loathe. Friday: hopefully nothing because it's a half day and the day before spring break :D. I'll update y'all on Friday on how I cope with the stress and crying. Before you leave, enjoy this picture of a baby I found on twitter that is my face 100% of the time. BYEEEEEE!!!

Why hello there, it is Natalie again. I feel as though there is something dire I must address right away. This is so monumental that I am so compelled to share this information with you, the reader, whoever you may be, right now. In regards to Barry's last post, I have a confession. One of my self-care methods to relax and de-stress is also to theorize about Star Wars. Even more urgent, the one thing that Barry and I may ever be able to agree upon is that Rey is in fact a Kenobi, not a Skywalker. Perhaps one of these days Barry and I can come to accept our differences and do a Star Wars movie marathon together while fidgeting with our FLY Charms. Until then...
Natalie out. Hello again all I hope you realize how lucky you are you get to hear from me twice in a week that's more than most of my family! Anyway this is what I hope will be the beginning of a series of posts about what I and the rest of the FLY charms team do to relax (though mostly me because despite what Natalie may say this was completley my idea). So what do I do to relax, well for today, are two things (I don't wanna overload you). I enjoy watching films and Star Wars theorizing. I love older films particularly because of the actors such as Bogart, Tracy, Lugosi, and Karloff not to mention Frank Sinatra (who I'll cover in a later post). They gave performances so stunning that can't be beat. The universal monsters are also a common watch just due to their quality (Bride of Frankenstein I could just watch it 24/7). Watching them is so fun because I get into the thought "ok I'm a 16 year old in 1931 what would I think of Bela Lugosi's performance". My other relaxation tool is Star Wars Theorizing, now I imagine your asking "what is that?". Well, it's when Star Wars fans such as myself use all canon materials whether they be films, books, comics, TV shows, short stories, etc. to try to answer questions. Specifically, who are Rey's parents? (Obi-Wan and duchess Satine obviously), who is Snoke? (Ok I think he is just Snoke) and who will Benecio Del Toro play? (Ezra Bridger no argument). It has a very calming effect on me because it's like a puzzle trying to find that one quote from a comic that may prove your point. It is how I imagine debate club would go if it were not so serious. Plus even if our guess is wrong we still just spent a night reading Star Wars! Well I'm sure it has been nice hearing from you and I'm sure your waiting at the edge of your seat to hear what Natalie has to say about this so until then Ciao!
Written and Directed by Barry D. Libowitz II Update: Again, grammatically edited by Natalie Be it known to whomever is so fortunate to stumble upon this glorious work, that it has been written by the one and only Jack Di Carlo. Well in reality I'm not the one and only, if you google my name you will find many others who bare the same prestigious name. There is no rhyme or reason to this post, I have just concluded reading the two previous post by Mr. Barry Libowitz II, and Natalie. Wait, hold the phone. I do apologize but I have just been informed that there is more work to be done. My current mood can now be described using one line from an Isley Brothers song and it is as follows: "You make me want to shout". Well, looks like my writing has to come to a conclusion, time to fire up my Chuck Berry record and get to work. Good Evening to all.
- The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Jack Di Carlo p.s. I got commended Hello, it is Natalie again. It is the same Sunday morning that Barry just referenced in the last post. Since Barry insists upon stealing the spotlight while throwing me under the bus I feel the need to explain myself, especially since he won't answer my texts. Well actually, I don't. From what you probably have gathered about Barry, he is quite the character. On the contrary to what you might think, Barry and I are the best of friends. We go together like Marvel and DC. Enough about Barry now, I actually wanted to address some important topics he discussed in his last blog post. Barry, Jack, and Jamielyn have all been working tirelessly on the procedures for the various experiments we are going to conduct at FLY Charms. I commend them on their hard work and I know these experiments are going to be phenomenal. Last Friday, I took the time to talk to a psychology specialist, my psychology teacher. She provided me with great knowledge and insight about mental illnesses and directed me to helpful studies and articles. She was also able to help me better understand the logistics behind Barry and Jack's procedure for one of the experiments. We plan to conduct our first experiment relatively soon, by that I mean the first week of April. I cannot provide too much information in fear of our test subjects reading this post and finding out. Also because it is fun to leave those who ARE reading this in a great deal of suspense. So for now...
Natalie out. Good morning all it is I, Barry, making his triumphant return (don't you just feel so lucky?) to let you know of the updates on our experiments. The good part is that I am currently writing this on a Sunday morning in my house so Natalie can't tell me to stop because I silenced my phone. Anyway, my partner Jack and I have been hard at work on experiments (ya know, the science part of this thing) and have 2 currently planned. Now I won't reveal all the details because frankly that would ruin the suspense but one involves giving 2 classes a pop quiz but only one gets FLY Charms to see if they have any effect on stress signals. The other will be a true field test where we give a rowdy and restless class the charms for 2 weeks and the teacher reports to us with any changes (that one was completely my idea so it is pretty much guaranteed to be the stuff of legends). Jack is in charge of physical quantitative data collection such as blood pressure while I am tasked with more qualitative data like mood surveys and getting feedback from teachers (a complete under use of my skills if I say so myself, which I do). In fact, by the end of the day today I will be finishing that pop quiz for the teachers to overlook. Hold on, I will be back in a minute my Frank Sinatra album needs to be flipped to side 2 (I can't wait it, starts with "That's Life"). Ok I'm back. Anyway we also have a 3rd experiment dealing with essential oils but I will allow Jamie to explain it to you in a future post (I'm always told my generosity is my best feature). You know there's nothing more about FLY Charms so here is some more to know about me: favorite Looney Tune? Porky Pig. Favorite book trilogy? The Thrawn Trilogy by Tim Zahn (Thrawn is back I already pre-ordered the exclusive version of the new book though the Celebration Orlando cover looks better in my opinion). Favorite Disney film score? you know 2015's Cinderella had a beautiful score with so many touching moments it just fit perfectly. I'd say more now but Natalie would get mad at me on Monday so ciao!
Written, edited, produced, and dictated by Barry D. Libowitz II Update: Grammatically edited by Natalie Hello it's Natalie! Today I really worked to find out the production side of FLY Charms! I began to do some research and find out the cost of average charms, how much the plastic for the 3D printer costs, and how we could come up with numbers for retail and wholesale prices. I saw Barry and Jack working on the procedure for our stress related experiment and how and when we are going to conduct it. I think FLY Charms is on a great path and has so much to offer!
Hi! Its Grace! Today we are working hard to develop our "Fresh Perspectives" part of the expo project. Coming together as a group is helping us to focus on directing all of our roles in this project back to this theme. We had our research group present their ideas to the rest of us and we were able to give some great feedback to them, they are working on focusing their research on mental illness onto the function of the brain and why people develop certain stimming habits. Hopefully we will get that information soon and begin putting that knowledge towards the production of the charms.
Today we are finalizing the blue prints for our charms! Last week Michael began to make the charms in CAD and they are coming out amazing. This morning Loanis, Joslyn, Elizabeth and Grace are creating a clean, detailed blue print to add to our website. Grace is also creating a page to explain our "Fresh Perspectives" idea on our website. We are feeling more and more ready for expo every day, there are many more ideas and progress to come!
Today has definitely been our most productive day yet. Joe and Natalie have updated the website drastically and it is coming together very nicely. They have added the tabs designs, experiments, and fresh perspectives. Grace, Keegan, Colin, and Michael have been brainstorming design ideas and are focusing on using CAD technology to 3D print our charms. Jack, Barry, and Jamielyn have been writing the procedures for our future experiments with our charms. We are so excited about our project and our motivation has skyrocketed. It's amazing what we can create when we put our minds together!
Today we spent our day working productively on finishing our biographies for the website and brainstorming ideas. We also finalized our social medias and new logo! We have begun to really dive into how we are going to create different charms for our prototype.
